About St. Alphonsus Liguori

Founded in 1867 and staffed by Redemptorist priests, St. Alphonsus "Rock" in north St. Louis is one of the Archdiocese's most celebrated African-American parishes, known for its two gospel choirs and a worship style that draws parishioners from across the city. Its landmark church features stained-glass windows that debuted at the 1904 World's Fair, and it holds the distinction of hosting Venerable Augustus Tolton — America's first recognized Black priest — who offered Mass here in 1887.
