St. Joseph Cathedral, founded in 1792 under Spanish colonial charter as "Nuestra Señora de los Dolores," is one of the oldest Catholic parishes in Louisiana and the mother church of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Known as "The Spiritual Heart of Baton Rouge," its landmark red doors welcome worshippers downtown for two Sunday Masses and weekday noon Masses, with pastoral leadership from Rev. Cary Bani since 2021.
