San Xavier del Bac Mission — known as the "White Dove of the Desert" — is one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial Baroque architecture in the United States, built by Franciscan missionaries around 1783 on land of the Tohono O'odham people south of Tucson. A National Historic Landmark and active parish in the Diocese of Tucson, it offers Sunday Mass twice each morning (with seasonal time adjustments) and a Saturday vigil, drawing both devoted parishioners and thousands of pilgrims and visitors each year.
