About St. Nicholas Catholic Church

Established in 1887 as Houston's first Black Catholic parish, St. Nicholas remains a cornerstone of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, worshiping in its 1924 church on Clay Street designed by Leo Diehlmann. Today it serves its longtime African American congregation alongside the city's Cameroonian and East African communities, with Sunday English Masses including a bilingual English/Swahili liturgy and weekday morning Masses.
