Nestled in the Mount Hood corridor at Welches, St. John traces its roots to a 1926 chapel built so woodcutters and forest visitors could keep the Sunday obligation, on land donated from the Ilo Ilo ranch and first served by Benedictines of Mount Angel Abbey. Today it is a mission of St. Michael in Sandy within the Archdiocese of Portland, offering a Sunday morning Mass to this mountain community.
