Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, defined ex cathedra by Pope Pius XII in Munificentissimus Deus (1950). In 2026 the obligation to attend Mass is abrogated in the U.S. because August 15 falls on a Saturday (USCCB Liturgical Calendar 2026, Note 6c).
