St. Francis Xavier, the Jesuit missionary who brought the faith to India, Japan, and South-East Asia in the 16th century, is the primary patron of missions and missionaries. He was declared patron of all missions by Pope Pius X. His feast day is December 3.

St. Thérèse of Lisieux, a Carmelite nun who never left her convent but offered her prayers and sufferings for missionaries and wrote of her "vocation" to go to the ends of the earth in spirit, was declared co-patroness of the missions by Pope Pius XI in 1927 despite having never engaged in active missionary work. Her feast day is October 1.
